So... The car was running the other day, but decided it would rev on its own so I had to switch it off and now it won't start.

I fitted a new CAS: got the car on TDC, removed the distributor, fitted the CAS, inserted the distributor one tooth out so that it was aligned to the punch mark when fully inserted. Tried starting it and nothing, checked the ecu and got a "nothing wrong" response code.

Today I tried again and checked there was a spark from the king lead to an earth (the stainless heat shield). The spark didn't look really strong but it was daylight. Plugs are wet and injectors seem to be fine.

Checked the ecu: code 11 and 13, which seems to be the CAS and water temp sensor...

Any ideas why this would be? I now have 3 CAS and so I can pop an old one back in. Am I doing something wrong with refitting the distributor?

I'm not completely surprised about the temp sensor, even though this is new, as I may have originally put the wiring in back to front and apparently this can kill the sensor?

Sorry, also, any ideas why it would rev on its own? A leak in the filter to turbo pipe? I did check for leaks but...

Did you buy new CAS or are they second hand? I had exactly this and Mark sent me a new one which sorted it out, have you checked the rotor arm position at TDC?

The one currently fitted is from Mark. I checked to make sure it was properly shimmed and, if fitting it at TDC, the rotor arm can only be fitted pointing to cylinder 1, I think?

could be the ignition transistor but they are like rocking horse poop and quite expensive

Counter clockwise? So the firing order is reversed, Darryl?

I don't think there is a problem with the coil and transistor because I have a spark, but I think I have a brand new spare coil and transistor... I could try it...

Plug one is top right, if you look closely you can see an arrow or number one on the cap

That's normal though isn't it, not reversed? Cylinder one is at around 2 o'clock (approx.) and cylinder 3 is around 5 o'clock (looking straight on at the cap) etc.

It's pretty odd because it should be running! :(

Yes sorry what I meant is most engines are clockwise and this is counter clockwise but in that order. Have you done a compression test?

I never thought about it being anti-clockwise! Yes, I compression tested it a while ago as it was showing symptoms similar to Steve's (Cork) but, even though I had to do it cold, it seemed fine.
