POWER STEERING

Post by gtcse8 » Mon Jul 08, 2019 9:55 am

Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control, due to the closure of the UK`s largest parts supplier, I will not be reconditioning PAS racks in the future.
I have tried to stock up on the parts that are needed but the supply has now ceased.
Unless I can find another source of the consumable parts in a PAS rack, when my stock runs out I will not be able to service the racks at a reasonable cost. :w

Which parts are we talking about Mark? I suspect GW/QRG would have a vested interest in sourcing them?

That's a blow, Mark.
For both you and the wider Scimitar community.
I would just take the opportunity for your help and advice.
Gordon.

Hi Mark
Does that now mean I won't be getting the rack we have talked about.

Ron your rack refurb will go ahead, just been very busy with personal stuff.
I have enough components for Five Complete rebuilds, or possibly Ten partial, all depends upon what the rack requires to bring it up to standard.

I have a lot of stock invested in these rebuilds and I can`t keep paying full whack for expensive parts to compete with GW et al.

The hunt will now be on to find something else that fits or can be made to fit - not going to worry me for a while as Mark re-conditioned my spare rack some time ago.

Hi Peter
Ironically Freudenberg group are in North Shields, and it`s their decision to cease supplying the classic car traders.

I saw it coming when they notified me last December that they were selling the parts suppliers warehouse and moving to a new location.
I bought up what they had in stock at the time, but was assured their continued supply.
Bit of a kick when I rang for more parts last week to be told the classic car division had shut.

Had a call last night from the Austin owners spares manager about the racks I do for the 1800/2200 which are similar to the SE5, forgot to ask him if he had heard about the closure too.

Can they not put you on to another supplier mark ? - they should know who were their competitors and someone must be able to make money out of it - there are a lot of classics out there.

One of the best ways forward could be the idea of electric PAS using a manual rack. The only issue is finding a manual rack that is geared suitably

The 6's manual rack would be ok for EPAS but they are hard to come by. Currently fitting my 6th EPAS

It would appear that the Manual SE6 rack may be a LHD Princess, I got a few from Scimpart and have only just found this out, just like the SE5 rack is Based on LHD Austin 1800/2200 and we all know how rare those cars are in UK, never mind over seas.

Jim
What happens is I have sold a few and I recently found was the racks that I have left at the bottom of the pile that I got from Scimpart are RHD, so luckily OR NOT, the ones I supplied earlier were correct for Scim`s.
I now have a couple of RHD racks, that won`t fit UK Scimitars which would be of use to LHD Scimitars if anyone was interested over seas.
