SE5a for restoration - offers

Post by Will Anderson » Sun Jun 09, 2019 9:29 pm

Right, the time has come that I have to realise that I am not going to get round to restoring GOL 535L and neither do I really want to break it. This is despite the fact that I have always hung onto it using the excuse that I could use it for parts for my other 5a.

I would prefer it to go to someone who is prepared to restore it but the scale of that task should not be underestimated. It has sat for 12 years unused and in the open. The paintwork is really bad and I note, today, that the drivers door lower hinge is moving in the door and other parts of the doors appear to be suffering from rust and the door cards are U/S. One ARB mount (the cover arch bit) has rusted off. Added to that it has the usual issues with water ingress, although the cabin would be presentable with a serious clean.

When parked up it had a strong engine, gearbox and the overdrive had been reconditioned. The chassis was waxoyled before being parked up and it did have some previous repairs, including the roll hoop.

Oh, and it is in North Scotland.

So, I am open to offers on this but would be prepared to let it go FoC to someone who agreed to restore it, at least to running condition. It is, after all, a film star! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZAgM30z8oc

Good GOLly, Will - you kept that one quiet! I never knew you had a secret wreck of a 5a! All the best with the sale. It'd be nice to see it back in its full glory...

Where's that groan emoticon!

Yes, GOL is/was my first Scimitar and I ran it for 10 years before taking it off the road to concentrate on my other 5a. It took us down to Harewood for the 2001 RSSOC meeting and always felt quicker than my other 5a. I have a huge history file on it. :)

since when did your location count as 'North Scotland'
Shetland is , Orkney is, Thurso is, but your home, not convinced . .. . .

but either way a long way for Josh to collect, I've just collected a car from Darlington, and that felt far enough

SS1 1600 (AJZ ----), C30 (SK 57 ---)& 480 ( .. . EVU & . . . . CDC)
Regal 330 (VAV ---) now passed to another 'keen owner'

Everything is relative, it is north of the central belt! :)

I have picked up 2 cars from Bristol, one from Cambridge and one from Manchester and that is just the Scimitars! Okay, they drove home and were not on a trailer.

I admire Josh's commitment, there has got to be a free Scimitar closer than me!
