Ignition bits

Post by mikeh » Thu Jun 06, 2019 1:46 pm

Hi I got mine through a friend who is into electronics.

They came from RS components stock number 463000 in a pack of 2 9.00 delivered.

Cant tell if it will work but will try tonight on the way home.

NOTE if soldering you need to do it quickly as the heat will destroy the unit !!

Don't ask me how I know !

Mike

Cheers guys, got a couple coming from Farnells tomorrow, RS out of stock. Noticed our wires are crimped on, so will maybe do the same? Let you know how big the fire was when we get it fitted! :D

Got a couple of MJ10012 transistors from Farnell as suggested. No go with these I’m afraid, don’t work at all. Wired up exactly the same as old one and engine will nor fire at all. Put the old one back on and engine does what is was doing, fires up rus a while and shuts the sparks off. Would not suggest using these. Back to the old problem, no car.

Question for Scimjim but others might have interest. When you have fitted other injection motors, have you used the original car ecu or gone the aftermarket route? Not altering this car as we have hopefully sorted it when the bits arive, interested for the other car we have.

1.4CVH (PTE) - runs a stock Ford ECU (and instrument pack although that might not have been totally necessary as it created other problems)
1.4 K Series is running the stock Sabre (Metro GTi 16V) ECU
1.8 Zetec is running a Megasquirt.
MX-5 install was planned to use the stock ECU (as it talks to the auto box ECU of a fashion).

Phil did most of the electrics - either in person or over the phone :D

Standard ECU is certainly easier, only problem is you generally need the matching instruments. Not a problem with the K series as the mk2 Sabre used the metro dash anyway but the EFi CVH was a bit awkward. Plans for the mx5 involve the complete dashboard and instruments.

Mazda engine was fitted by a mate of mine in a Triumph Spitfire. He used the standard ecu plus the clocks. Goes very well, doesn’t stop that good though!

And there’s me fabricating a set of throttle bodies to fit on a CVH, to run on Megasquirt instead of twin 40’s..all to stop it bogging down round corners...

Still like the sound of those Weber’s though, but I guess I’m old school.
