Resto of Scimitar SS1

Post by emelbe » Tue Apr 30, 2019 4:37 pm

Hi there, Just a few lines to introduce myself and explain why I am on this forum! As a very keen competent amateur I have restored several cars over the years to original specs and show condition. My current modest collection includes several classic Lotus and Alfas. (Sorry, but I did own an SE5A some years ago). I have recently agreed to take on and work the magic on a SS1 belonging to my son - but this is no ordinary SS1(apologies to M&S), this is one of the 4 or 5 converted by Robin Rew and Turbo Technics.
Indeed, a previous owner is an active member of this forum.

Because all of my experience is with Lotus and Alfa, a few obvious questions please:
- does the body come off as a complete unit or is it a case of removing panels? (I ask because, although the main chassis is galvanised, the outriggers and sections below the sills appear not to be)
- any recommendations for a manufacturer/supplier of a soft top?
- any recommends for sources of spares/ (Used Graham Walker back in the day)

Thanks,

Martin B

Welcome, Martin!

I'm going to have a guess that I might be said previous owner?..

The whole chassis "was" galvanised - some of that galvanising may have done it's job.

The tub comes off in one lump but every other panel (aside from the windscreen surround) is removable.

That car has a short cut for the wiring loom - 2 plugs and sockets added by the battery which means the whole front armature comes off complete with the front end of the loom..

New old stock unused soft top on Ebay at the moment (not mine).

QRG are a good alternative source of parts to Graham Walker. Very knowledgable staff and always seem able to source any part. Reliant Parts World have lots of bits too.

Thank you one and all for your replies; I will upload photos soon.
Phil - yes Sir, my son bought the car from your good self; found an original printed advert in the boot.
Old Bean - thanks for the lead but can't find the listing on EBay.
