Rear screen seals

Post by DARK STAR » Mon Apr 15, 2019 7:19 am

Robert Bonetto asks for advice on fitting new rear screen seals :

I have a SE6A and I have the seals of the rear windows which are damaged with important entries of water. So I ordered a set of seals at Graham Walker and asked my coachbuilder to change them. However, he does not dare to start because he is afraid to damage the chrome rods during reassembly. Has any of you ever done this operation and in this case could he give us advice?

Here is his lovely car in english weather at the Classic Days event at Magny-Cours.

Rear screen seals

Did not have a problem when I changed mine - I assume you have order a new pair of top to bottom fixing kits. I inserted the glass into the bottom half first then eased the top on. One thing to note if you have a new rear screen with the heater elements embedded in the glass it is thicker than the original glass and then it best to just use a silicone sealant rather than trying to squeeze the thicker glass into the rubber strip and then into the frame. A silicone lubricant also makes it easier to put the lot together anyway.

Thanks Peter, I will transmit.
Do GW usually supply the side connectors?

I think it’s known as a rear hatch rebuild kit, and yes.

Never try and argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you based on experience.

Oops, sorry it is apparently the rear side window seals.

Any ideas on these, I have never even looked closely at them.
