SS1 heater and/ or fan upgrade

Post by Jhdelta » Mon Apr 08, 2019 9:24 pm

I heard somewhere an astra fan fits and makes a big improvement but the one I got from a MK3 astra (i think) is a larger diameter and longer so will take a lot of messing on to fit.

Are there other alternatves people have found?

thanks

MK2 Astra provides you with the same motor and a bit double the width (adjust accordingly, Reliant kindly cut it in half!)

Tony Idle used a Mondeo one I believe and I know I have seen others, usually put in through the external side of the casing.

The later Reliant ones (where the fan motor is on the correct (engine) side of the unit, are very much better IMHO but as there probably aren't many of those about, you may be better looking for an alternative.

I believe GW have the 3rd variant of SS1 (sabre) blower available at a price (a 3 figure one iirc)

I’ve just fitted a Nissan Micha K11 motor to G97 so that I could notch the housing for clearance. Seems to work well.
