SS1 carburettor questions

Post by mn757 » Mon Apr 01, 2019 8:33 pm

Hi all,

I have a 1300 SS1 with the VV carb fitted. I also have a manifold and weber from a 1600 SS1 that i'd like to fit to try and get a bit more power.

1). Is this a stupid idea ?
2). If not, my new carb has the throttle linkage missing - does anyone have the missing bit ?
3). Will I need to change the throttle cable ?
Pictures below of what I have / haven't got.

many thanks

SS1 carburettor questions

1) Not at all so long as you understand that it will need additional fettling to get it running spot on i.e re-jetting , rolling road.
2) I can see nothing missing?
3) No, the cable is the same, but you will need the mounting bracket to suit as well as the bracket for the VV is bolted to the carb whereas the DFT uses a manifold mounted bracket. Removing the old cable is a fiddle with a lock plate slipping back and 4 tabs being pressed down simultaneously.

Thank you for those details, that's helpful. I'd assumed something was missing from the ball but now I see that's just where the cable connects. Will have a play. Thanks

Fitted at the weekend, you were not wrong about the throttle clip, what an awkward design. Seems to be running very well so far although I've managed to lose the throttle clip so can't venture too far at the moment without the cable falling off until a replacement arrives. Definitely an improvement.
