Just a quick drive up to Burnley (from Coventry!) to pickup a near mint hardtop (hence all the blue foam)

Bought from a nice chap from "Classic Ford Parts" Acorn Garage BB67AB

He's always breaking all sorts of old stuff, might be worth keeping an eye on his ebay account "mk2tinagt"

Now to get this home in one piece!

I think a Range Rover P38, E class Mercedes estate and a Renault Scenic (mk1) are the only cars I’ve owned that can fit a hardtop inside 😀

Shame I wasn’t offered it when I bought the rest of the car

Back in one piece!

I had planned to take the ss1 and bolt it on whilst there but going topless for the 140 mile trip up was tempting the rain a bit too much for my liking

One more piece to the puzzle in place :D

If you want to swap it for a black vinyl covered one I know a man in the South with a gold SS1 and two black hardtops....

If anyone had asked me that before I picked it up I'd quite defiantly have done the swap - but after dropping the roof on the car I really like the Blue and Gold combination - didn't expect that for a minute!

Its certainly pointed me at the overall vinyl wrap colour scheme once I'm done with the MX5 conversion. Stick with the same shade of blue for the main body work with highlights of gold on roof, wheels, engine covers, dash trim.... I wonder if Samco do gold hoses?

Not everyone's cup of tea I'm sure, but I think it makes it look at bit different. I'll post up a pic later when I'm home.

Classic Silicone Hoses will do you near enough any colour you want on a made to fit set of silicone hoses for the SS1 so you can be as tasteful or tasteless as you like!

I've been accused of many many things in life, having taste isn't one of them....

Thanks for the pointer, I'll look them up :)

Again, pretty happy with them just need a bit of adjustment on the runners, plus once the wiring comes over I'll have heated seats :hurrah:

MX5 seats fit but then you sit higher than with originals. Acceptability depends on your height. Many people then lower the floor...

You only end up sitting noticibly higher if you don't modify the mx5 runners. There's no need to lower the SS1 floor..., in fact to get the runners back far enough to allow meaningful forward adjustment the hollow in the floor behind the seats will need levelling up.

The mx5 floor pan has strengthening box section shape pressed into it, to allow for this the runners have a downward bend at opposing ends.

Cutting, bending and welding a plate along the crease puts the strength back in and drops the height by around 1 to 1 1/2 inches. There are also two front locating lugs that need removing.

Having owned several MX5s it's common place in the "scene" to shave the seat base foam down as a last resort. Lucky for me, even just dropped in, my head is only just on the roof lining.

When I get round to fitting them proper I'll post up some pics.

Even without runners fitted, the mx5 seats are noticeably higher than the standard seats - you only notice the extra inch or two if you’re over 6’ tall though because you cant see through the top rail :D
