Not a RSSOC member, but I'm on this forum, mostly lurking, and am a Lotus owner. My cars:

1968 Scimitar V6 Coupe
1973 Lotus Elan plus 2
1993 TVR Chimaera

I see that I'm not the only one with a plastic car fetish! I have got a metal "daily drive" though.

Paul

Current Fleet...
1967 Scimitar V6 Coupe
1973 Lotus Elan Plus 2
1993 TVR Chimaera
2005 BMW 330ci
(and a 2003 Audi A6 Estate that the Old Nagger drives)

This just a bit of fun, so all Loti of interest.

Paul, Snap! I have a plus 2 and a V6 Scim. How do you find thay compare? My +2 is in very for condition, a 68 rebuilt. The Scim is in fast road tune and quicker.

Both my Lotus and my Scimitar go well but the Lotus definitely feels quicker. I don't know if it makes a difference but mine's a later "Big valve". The Lotus body, chassis and engine are all a lot lighter also.

However, the Scimitar starts better when its been standing for a while, whereas the Lotus is a bugger if it hasn't started for a while. Over on Lotuselan.net there seems to be the occasional discussion about poor cold starting with the Dellorto carbs so I'm probably not alone! Overall I find owning and driving the Lotus a more authentic fast "classic experience", but I do love the Scimitar also. In fact, if I had to use one everyday I would probably choose the Scimitar.

Wow ... another Scimitar/Lotus/TVR trio
Paul you are right, a lot of plastic around our cars ... although the Cat' has quite a large proportion of Alu
My daily driver is of the rusty family, but still in good shape thanks to low mileage and I must admit a very good quality building 8)
Family is about to extend soon with another plastic member ... which will share daily duties with the her japanese mate
Cheers,
Fred

My Lotus has Del Orto's also tricky to start compared to Webers. the old " 3 pumps" does not work as the design is different. mine is a 68 S/E, i did have a big valve car on Vegantune cam,s pretty quick. If I keep it I will probably upgrade the cams.

My Coupe has a special engine, rolling roaded at 140 bhp at wheels, so quicker than the +2. I agree that as standard cars the Lotus is quicker with better handling. I also agree the Scim is more practical. I did an article in Slice about this last year.

What is your top cold starting tip? The 3 pumps, no choke seems to work reasonably well in the summer, but in winter when its cold I have no reliable technique!

Well, after posting this thread - http://www.scimitarweb.co.uk/sgwrs/view ... 12&t=27581 -
the conclusion was 'I should stay with the marque'
Hopefully it should be an SE6 joining the mob sooner or later this month 8)
Will keep you guys posted of course !
Cheers, Fred

I must admit I resort to "3 pumps" but the advice is to use the choke. Try 4 pumps in Winter!

Moderator, any chance we can have this as a "sticky"? thanks
