SS1 diff mount help

Hi everyone!

Just started work on our SS1. Been parked up in the rain for 3 years and never been on the road in our ownership. I'm taking it on a 1000 mile round trip in 7 weeks. I might be mad!

Bit of advice needed.

What is the steering column originally from? I need to purchase a replacement top bush.

What are the diff mounts from?
Currently the diff is held in place with a block of wood after the chassis mount has broken! Looks like it's been that way for many years! Going to need a new mount to bolt in once I've welded up the chassis.

I also have quite a lot of rot to fix! Hopefully body off tomorrow.

Column top bushes are available from the suppliers.

If you mean the diff cradle, then that's bespoke. If you mean the rubber mounts, IIRC they're also bespoke and not available - they've been on the remanufacture request list for a while

Welcome to the forum :D

Early chassis diff mount cracking was known about and Reliant issued a repair instruction (basically a plate welded over it). I have s/h mounts if you need.

The steering column is off an SS1 :D I think I have one spare - which bit is actually worn?

I thought they were Ford? Can’t see them in the remanufacture thread?

Neither could I when I just looked tbf. I thought I could remember Phil A saying a while ago that he hadn't found any the same and it was maybe worth having them made? Having said that, I can't remember what I did yesterday so I could easily be wrong.

Thanks for the replies!
It was the rubber diff mounts I was referring to, turns out I do have it, but it's underneath...... Will add photo to show.
Column bush is the on between inner and outer at the top. I have machined up an aluminium one, but it will be a bit rattly compared to the original plastic, so a proper replacement would be better if available.
Thought I had added pictures, will try again!

Did I say that?

QRG has had them on the stall at Curborough past coupe years. Nos mounts front and rear iirc About 20 quid each.

Column top hat bushes readily available. Shared with other vehicles.

Ooh, that's good news. Do you know what other vehicles they are shared with? My googling session did not bear any fruit!

That would be great, thanks! Looking very sorry for its self now. Previous owner left it under a cover that ruined the paint. I also only have the hard top. Any history you have on it, I'd be interested to know.

Where are you Martin?
I think the GTE steering bushes will fit and I have a few spares.

They are flared internally and externally to get a better fit with no slop.
