ss1 ti fuel pump

Post by mikeh » Mon Mar 11, 2019 10:33 am

Hi I'm after a bit of advice.
I'm still working on my car and am ready to start it but I don't have a fuel pump for it.
( just finished installing all new fuel pipes in the car)
What sort of fuel pump do I need for the ti ?
does it have to be a high pressure in line pump or would a facet type fuel pump suffice ?
Also where is the best place to mount it at the rear of the car ?

Thanks

Mike

High pressure inline pump. Normally mounted in the C-section of the chassis IIRC.

I use one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/APS-Universa ... 569b7a02c4

As do quite a few of the Ti racers

The original pump is mounted in a very difficult location. I removed the boot liner and fitted a small aluminium shelf and mounted the pump on that (see link below). These things do fail so it this position its easy to swap out. Oh and its always useful to carry a spare

ss1 ti fuel pump

Thanks for the replies, was looking at those sorts of pumps but have a question regarding the supply pipe.
(please bear in mind I'm building this Ti from boxes of bits with only previous mechanical experience and information from this forum !!)
The inlet supply to the pump is either 10 or 12mm on some pumps yet the outlet from the tank sender unit is I think 8mm will check tonight at the farm on the way home.(Also knowing how delicate the outlets on the tank are and that they will break if you even look at them !!)
Do you use a stepped adaptor to increase the pipe bore from the 8mm to the 10 /12 of the inlet side of the pump ?
I'm hoping to get it running this weekend never having heard it run since I bought the car over 5 years ago.
just doing the cambelt / tensioner and water pump and got a copy of one of the previous threads on here of what to check if it doesn't start.
Should be interesting and smokey from the turbo as it's stood so long !.
sorry to be a nuisance !

Thx

Mike

Yes there is disparity in the hose sizes (unless you have a late Sabre fuel tank). I usually use a step up/down barbed hose connector to run the 8mm hose to 12mm hose. They’re available on eBay for about £3 (in brass).
