Front brake hoses

Post by mikeh » Tue Oct 23, 2018 4:56 pm

I've checked the forum and can't find anything on the front brake hoses. What car did they come off ( metro ones are too short don't ask me how I know !).
Is there an alternative that fits ?

Club traders have them cheaper than most other places I think.

I prefer Goodrich you never have to buy them again

I have just purchased a set of 3 Goodrich hoses from Graham Walker . The price was good and they fitted perfectly. can’t ask for more .

Yes, I meant Goodrich - almost fit and forget but I believe that the end fittings are plated rather than stainless. The problem with other sources is the same as the brake discs, I’m that most suppliers have the wrong specs. First check on eBay sets is to see how many hoses are in the kit. Most have 4 when the small sports needs 6.

Front brake hoses

Post by mikeh » Tue Oct 23, 2018 9:19 pm

Hi just checking up on my query.
The original brake hoses definitely weren't stainless as all the ones on the cars I've seen are rusty. !!
The hoses are a standard m10 x 1.0 threaded end it's just the length that changes.

As I need 2 complete sets it could get expensive !!
I'll have to have a chat with my mate in the trade and see if I can get hold of a catalogue and see what fits.
Thanks for the advice

Mike

why not make your own. You can buy all the part in stainless and then just make them up in any length. They are not as difficult as they first look.

my local motor factors had them 'in stock' ( a few years back) so also fitted to something else, ROVER SD1 I think, but I'l see if I can get the part number form my 'alternative parts' list

That is possible, and I've done it. However I believe it could fail an MOT if the tester sees the compression fittings.

I don't doubt that many cars pass the test every year with them fitted (mine does too), but it's something to be aware of.

The MOT manual says something along the lines of "Compression joints of a type using separate ferrules are not suitable".

Corky

I have never hear of the compression joint problem for an MOT. Thanks for the information. I will ask the view of my MOT man

Reliant Parts World have them. Give them a call and I'm sure Nigel S. There will cut you a deal on two sets.
