Small sport bonnet latch

Post by scimjim » Sun Sep 11, 2016 5:21 pm

I bought a RH latch (Reliant part number 219926) many months ago from RPW for Andy's car, and waited for them to open the container with LH latches in :-)

They finally did, and I've just received it - in a Volvo bag!

Googling the part number 3282242 (Reliant part number 219927) shows that it comes from a Volvo 300/360 (just one in the centre) and the male part (striker) looks the same as the small sports part too (Volvo part number 3268526, Reliant part number 219928)

Strangely I've just noticed that both of mine were loose this morning, good to know where to get another one

where on earth did Reliant do their shopping, somebody must have spent ages opening lots of cars bonnets to find the 'correct' one rather than just using a Ford Fiesta of similar age which also hinged at the front!!!
(tho I can't mind if they had a 'normal' type catch at the back? )

That's the popular myth, but I think it's most unlikely that it worked like that in reality - much more likely that Reliant when to a manufacturer of locks and catches and said "we want one like this, what can you suggest?" and they said "this one would be a good fit" (and of course it's always going to be cheaper to buy one that's already in production for someone else, rather than commissioning a bespoke design).
