It's all on topic!

Jim has a screen surround metal work hanging up in his workshop. I hefted it in my hand, but I don't know the weight of it.

If you get a chance Jim, would you be able to weigh it?

I reckon you’re not far off on screen weight Ben. The GRP surround is pretty thick but I think the metalwork is only a few Kg.

The thing I had only recently discovered is that the metal work within the header rail is actually one piece of box section slipped inside another, not sure if that is the whole way across as I was in a hurry to just get it all cut up.
I think part of the reason for the whole surround being quite heavy is the amount of mastic / filler that ties the inner and outer skin together with the metalwork embedded between.
You could I suppose remove all this metalwork and tie the screen surround into the cage at a few points.

I weighed my screen today, and it came out at 8.2kg

Thanks Steve. I realised I'd been slightly number dyslexic, my post below says 9.8 kg, but I had meant 8.9kg. Either way, the screen is lighter than I thought. I'll show my hand now too, the 4mm thick polycarbonate screen I cut out a while ago is 3.4kg, so it still represents a 4.8kg weight save if/when swapped.

The header rail is 3/4” box going all the way down to the “feet” that are bolted to the chassis.

The bit slipped inside at the top centre appears to be a 100mm section to set the width when the tub is laid up.

Down the side of the screen it’s further strengthened by a piece of 1/2” square tube welded to the front face, all the way down to the bottom.

As well as thick GRP layup there is a huge amou t of heavy filler in the surround.

I completely removed the metalwork from my first mock-up tub for G97 and filled the void with expanding foam - figuring that the 6 point roll cage would do the same job. In the end I didn’t do it on the current tub as I wasn’t sure if the screen would flex too much.

Can’t find my scales at the moment but I’d estimate 3 or 4 Kg?

Just been reading the PDF and it states 5KG for a trailing arm, they feel alot heavier than that
