I went on the check mot history site ,it says first reg 1st july 1971 SUL139N

Vehicle Enquiry website says it’s 1974 - and declared VHI at a guess. That might be what throwing the MoT history site out (which I assume is VOSA, not DVLA).

You’re assuming government departments both communicate and have the same information though :lol:

I'm not assuming anything Phil i just happened to look on the first mot site that popped up....begining to wish i hadnt now 😂....The check tax site also states its still meant to be green

the MOT site is DVSA and as you suspect, a totally different database 🤡

The date isn't mentioned on the register, however the chassis number corresponds with all other N registered cars, so no reason to believe it isn't a 1974 car.
