SE6b Workshop Manual suggestions

Post by se6b » Wed Aug 05, 2020 9:30 am

Hi
I’m looking for why recommendations for a good workshop manual for an SE6b as I can only find ones with reference to pre 1980 cars. Any good quality, easy to follow books for a novice?!

Kind regards

Tony

The club sells the 6 series manual and 6b/GTC supplement - if you’re rebuilding an engine, I’d get the Ford Haynes manual for the Capri/Granada/Sierra?

Wiring changed a little for the 6b but I'd be using Peter Freeman's wiring diagrams anyway as they're a lot easier to use than the Reliant ones anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I’ll have a look at those options. Really just wanting an easy to follow manual with reference/diagrams/pictures to aid a novice with maintenance and general tasks of repair.

As Jim says the Reliant workshop manual + supplements. Though the workshop manual was written for the SE6/6a, most of it is applicable to the 6b/GTC.
Useful to have the spares manual and Reliant service bulletins ....also available from club, though I believe I remember all included on the CD disk I bought. I printed out all pages and put each in an individual plastic envelope in a ring binder so can take relevant pages to garage for work. Can also write notes on pages such as nut/bolt sizes and torque and if required print out another page when too dirty/too many untidy notes.
Haynes Ford Granada SEP 1977 to Feb 1985 also useful for Cologne engine info + some other odds and ends.
Plus, of course, this forum where you will get answers to anything you need to ask. The workshop manuals do not always cover things in as much details as might be desirable.
On computer I keep my own "documents" with a layout and titles the same as the workshop manual so that any detailed information from the forum (or other source) can be copied and put on a new WORD app. page or added to an existing page which can then be 'saved' or be either printed out and put in another ring binder or in the relevant section of the workshop manual. That way you build up a vast set of notes on the foibles, sourcing, tricks and tips that the official books don't tell you about.

I'd also add that you can download the parts manuals from the traders websites. The SE6b/GTC in pdf from QRG is on my kindle tablet, and I find it really useful for quick reference.
