Where to Measure Temperature

Post by yosini » Fri Jul 24, 2020 8:22 am

Morning all,

Luckily my SE6A is very consistent with its temperature reading, whatever the weather or driving conditions the gauge generally reads just to the right hand side of the 0 on the 90 mark. I know that these things are inherently not that accurate but it would be good to know what the temperature of the engine truly is and where this reading could be taken from to judge against the gauge. I have a very accurate laser thermometer so if someone could let me know where to point it at on the engine to take a true reading that 'should' be the same as the gauge that would allow me to work out if my gauge over or under reads, or maybe it really is a true reading! This is more of an inquisitive post rather than anything I'm worried about but might also help others check their gauges, maybe we could run a poll to see who has the most inaccurate gauge....

Happy Friday all

Cheers Joe

As Phil says, at the sender.

I aim it at the brass part of the sender and calibrate the gauge to match.
