Overdrive. How can this be?

Post by chips01 » Tue Jun 23, 2020 1:07 pm

Just back on the road after 20 years laid up and she has fought refurb at every step. First run went OK. Back home check around, seems OK. Run out again and tried overdrive, no chance.

Here we go check power supply to switch, OK. Check power supply to gearbox switch, OK. Check power supply to solenoid. Wait whats that there is a wire off the solenoid, plug back in. ALL OK AND OVERDRIVE IS FINE. How and why has something been so easy and satisfying on this rebuild. Maybe we have turned a corner. Deep joy.

Never try and argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you based on experience.

Better than one of my bikes.....JAP v-twin out for first ride.....magneto chain jumped the sprocket, mangled around crank gear and broke side of the crankcase....ouch!
Good luck...my 6a is still a long way off, so can't compare car stories....yet!

Does the overdrive/gearbox have a mesh filter?

I am so chuffed. I was all set for a new solenoid etc. She has been a breeze the last couple of days and makes up for the hell I have been through with her. Out tomorrow at full tilt with my new overdrive. Yeeehaa.

Ha! Totally the opposite to me. My SE6A had obviously kicked around for some time before I got it, and the gearbox and overdrive all seemed fine. A quick peak whilst refreshing the engine has led to a refurb of the overdrive (clutch breaking up/bearings poor) and a new layshaft gear & bearing set in the gearbox after I found a few teeth missing...

SE6a needing lots of work...
