GTC door tongue

Post by ard126k » Tue Aug 06, 2019 11:23 am

The GTC door has an extra 'tongue' to help stop door rattling. Should it be set to rest on the lower edge of its housing on the body, or centrally? My doors still have a bit of a rattle.

Alex.

The tongue you refer to is to help door alignment .Dont think it matters where it lines up,but the rattle you can hear may be due to the sprung loaded reciever on the B pillar not having any fresh grease in it and what in there has dried out. Had the same problem. Check it is not stuck. I removed mine cleaned, and filled with fresh grease.

But remember when removing that the plate with captive nuts inside the pillar will fall down inside if you take both screws out. Take one out, twist the catch till you can put screw back into inner plate then remove second screw. A magnet may help to manoeuvre the plate to line up holes when replacing.

.....and getting the plate out involves removing most of the rear interior on the affected side.

Come to think, the holders do take a few seconds to spring out when I open a door. I'll try oiling.
