Hi Guys,
Is the chassis number engraved onto the chassis of an SE6?
If it is where would it be engraved?
All advice gratefully received.
Thanks, Emma

Just one thing to add - the reason for the areas "A" and "B" in the photo is that the number is split into two parts, from memory "A" contains the date and paint code, and "B" contains the model type and the sequential chassis number.

Thank you.

I have been and checked, very carefully, and there is no number in that location.

I guess the car is pre-mandatory stamp.

Nope, much later than mandatory stamping - scimitars were stamped from the 60s. It’s either under 40 years of crud and paint or it’s been ground off. I’d suspect the former as “Fred the stamp” wasn’t very strong so they’re quite faint sometimes. :D

My 79 6a with the later frame number sequence has the whole number stamped on the same area complete in one line but on the diagonal to fit in!

Hello, just looked at the suspension upright on my SE6 A and you can see that there was a number there once but it is so shallow that you cannot make it out even with enhanced software. Is there anywhere else the paint code would be as my Scimitar is painted in a thick custardy yellow but it is an almost pastel yellow underneath. It is obviously a respray, poorly done, as there are runs in many places throughout the body. I want to return it to its original colour if I can get the number and find a paint source.
Regards, Alan

Thank you, I am very grateful. Do you have any idea where I can get a swatch or sample to compare.

Just found a site with colour guides. The April Yellow colour seems to be a little bit more subtle and when comparing it to the slam panel under the bonnet it appears Panama is closer. Do you know if the S reg SE6 A Scimitar would have used Panama. I do apologise for being so dim but this is my very first Scimitar and I am loathe to make any mistakes.

it’s also on your VIN plate and your V5.

For a 6A, the colour is part of the VIN number (aluminium plate on the inner wing)?

S reg would be the earlier VIN number construction so should be a number, a letter, then the next 2 numbers being the colour code. 44 being April Yellow No.2 for example.

Phil, you are an absolute star. My number is 7E4418202935, so I know now it is April Yellow, and now the search begins for a source. Thank you to everyone making this mistake of mine just about bearable.

Do I remember that there is a table/document somewhere that gives the recipe for all the different colours.....i.e. the standard trade part number for each pigment and quantity that was used to mix to get the required colour?

I am pretty sure, having looked at which of the Jaguar dark blues I need for my Austin which I like the shade of having done it many years ago. The Jaguar club had lots of info on colour make up and recognition.
