I’ve been told about the fuel cap before a couple of years ago at Bromley Pageant.
One thing I would like to do is reinstate the stainless steel side trims. Any Idea where I get the clips to hold them on?

It was the fuel cap that swung my view point. Just for my further education Jim , what did you pick up from the pictures to help you id a " first 500 " . Thanks Richard .

As a G Reg car my thought it had to be a first 500 car . There are a lot of differences but a lot of cars over the years have been upgraded and modernised. What Chrome strips do you think are missing ? Shouldn’t have them on the sills or as my old car had them on the sides. I added them myself.
It shouldn’t have Black B Post trims , or a rear wiper , or a non upright filler cap. But my pre 500 car was far from standard and I didn’t give a damm.

Maybe when it was restored by John Louch? I think it’s that car anyway :?

Rear wiper of course was an option that could have been factory or dealer fitted later but as Roy says, it wouldn’t have had chrome stripes.

Richard, nothing about the photo told me it was a pre 500 car, I looked at my old database (GDPR redacted of course) - I was the GTE registrar for many years.

It was restored about 17 years ago by John at Iain Daniels, not sure of his surname.
I bought it because of its amazing condition compared to the others I’d seen.

Yes, this is definitely the SE5 restored by John Louch; got some pictures of it somewhere when it was first displayed, post-restoration, at a Club bash at Drayton Manor Park.

Being a G reg example, it wouldn't have originally been fitted with the chrome side strips; I'd be extremely wary of taking a drill bit to that superb paint/bodywork...

I’d love a copy of the pics if you can find them. I’ll resist putting the side strips on. I like the look though.

Apologies for the delayed response to this; happy to pass on copies of the pictures, when I can find them. They will be from (my) pre-digital days, so could be anywhere...!!

Hi All just for the record when I acquired REL 417G from Chris Lloyd’s Collection of scrap cars there was no side trim present or any sign of any ever being fitted Also when I stripped the paint of down to the gel the holes were filled in under the very first layer of primer and as the body still had its layer of sticky primer that the Reliant used back in the day I assumed they were never fitted from the factory possibly a customer request

Stirred not shaken!
