Hi

My name is Mike, I'm in central Scotland near Edinburgh
With advice from Grieg Ford and help from Terry Rickard in Bristol I've bought a 1970 SE5, hopefully not a major project but does need a bit of general work and a complete respray.

i've installed it in my garage and am spending a bit of quality time lying underneath with a cup of tea and few biscuits, peering at the assorted gubbins.
First on my list is to get the brakes and running gear into good order, then I can put the wheels back on and contemplate the bodywork. Not having unlimited project funds I don't want to spend any more money on painting than necessary as unfortunately for health reasons I can't do the painting myself.

A long time ago in a previous life I remember changing a clutch in a Scimitar, it was probably a SE5a. I remember thinking at the time what a good idea to make a fibreglass body shell - now about 38 years later I've got one!! (the clutch seems to be ok)

I also restore old motorcycles for pleasure (?) and I worked in the motor trade in the 70's so I do have some experience with older vehicles but there's always something new to learn.

Welcome, Mike :D Sounds like a good SE5 - lots of photos needed !

It's always possible to experiment with foam-brush or foam-roller painting, many have (though I've not seen any). It's something I may try next summer. . . . . (and yes, I've said that before :? ).

I can't help myself - I have to ask questions and find out why. Why ? Dunno

Welcome Mike , if it is the car advertised on this site recently it looked like it had been cared for before it was parked up. I would not be surprised if it had a cover put over it which may have contributed to the paint issue. If it is that car and you get around to a respray have a look at the front wings to see if you can id a graft . Wish you well , Richard .

Painted a sailing boat many years ago with a foam brush and a roller - brush the paint on and roller it flat. It worked ok but boats tend to have lots of flattish surfaces so not too difficult. Might give it a go if I feel brave enough ....

Enjoy getting to know the car, Mike. It has real potential - and a FABulous reg plate too! :D

I saw from the sale thread that you're somewhere outside Edinburgh. I often travel over from Glasgow to my parents in Tranent (well, not so often these days, of course... :| ), but would love to get a look at the car some time if you're anywhere near that neck of the woods.

Looking forward to following your progress on here.

Tom
