New baked Owner of an "Trabant on steroids" (Scimatar GTE SE5a) near Wismar at Baltic Sea, Germany

Dear All,

I recently exported the "last Scimitar prior Corona" from UK to Germany.

Although export on own axle is not so easy as till 2016, I bought this nice peace of british car design history past week from an nice Gent from Edgware, north London who was driving & luvin it for 10 years (Thanks for bringing it to Harrige Ferry!). I am happy with the car since it is not an concours car but in quite all day drivable condition - and it already got all the essentials from T9 5-gear, coilover spax, aluminium timing gear, opto ignition, revotec electric fan, webcon choke, stainless tank, exhausts, up-rated alternator, all hoses silikon etc. Motor runs totally smooth, but what I like especially is the frame look sound all around, pre-owner said it is galvanised.

Bringin it home (to ex GDR territory) my friends named me mad, since the car is GRP and "classic Trabbi blue" - after they drove it, they got a remaining smirk ...sayin ok - it is a "Trabant on steroids"....

Prior to MOT (in Germany TÜV) it, I need to do some minor works and oil cleaning - will come up with questions in according boards soon, assume the expert audience can help me (the german Scimi board seems down at the time).

The first Scim I ever saw was in Germany - I was in the RAF at the time and someone brought it across with him - used to see it at the NAAFI at wekends

I wonder if that was mine? SE5A green, 1972 - 4 Gutersloh? There was also a SE5 red there at the same time.

Almost certainly mine I would think. Sold it to someone in a UK rock group in 1974 when the family got too big. And moved back into GTE ownership two years ago!

"...people who drive on the wrong side of the road as well."
 it a bit on perception - almost entire world does overtake with left...

BTW: LED`s in classic cars are a no-go at the German TÜV / MOT (...he is litterally living behind Swiss Alps  )

In Sweden, where I am, they switched from left to right in '67 I believe because neighboring countries were already driving on the right.
I think I heard that the last country to change went from right to left since they import so many used vehicles from Australia. But can't remember which country that was.

had this discussion the other day on another site - we are in the minority by a HUGE number.

RHD is used about a sixth of the world's area with about a third of its population and a quarter of its roads.
