Quick hello

The experience of owning a Scimitar never leaves you.
Retirement and looking for an easy project 30 years later means I’m looking for another.
Now living in Australia (Melbourne) means I’m not spoilt for choice.
Mechanical inexperience means I’m hesitating about the very few which do come up for sale.
Very impressed with the forum; more familiar with computer technology than the car at the moment but that is changing quickly :D

NZ may be your nearest source of cars. Best of luck with your search.

Thank-you Scimjim and Peter. Yes I hear there is an active Scimitar community over there. There is a big problem with importing anything into Australia which might potentially contain asbestos. Not sure of exact details but I’ve been told by more than one car enthusiast that Australian quarantine could potentially strip a vehicle on the dockside and leave you with a pile of bits. And I wouldn’t want to deprive the NZ folk of one less Scimitar anyway 😃

I don't think there is any asbestos in Scimitars - maybe a bit stuck above the exhaust silencers in the SS1 range

Welcome! :D

Someone successfully imported a Middlebridge in about 2014. Plenty hurdles but I can't remember asbestos being one?

There is a Middlebridge in Perth, Australia, No 32 and the owner is currently returning her to her former glory. There was quite a bit of paperwork involved and the owner ended up stripping components from the car to save costs. Apparently the rules for importing a car I parts is a lot different to a road worthy vehicle. There was NO mention of asbestos at the time.

Kindest regards

Our old 6a went to Aus but we had nothing to do with the import/export.

We do have a friend who has had all of his cars imported from the UK to Aus, '67 mustang, '66 marcos 1800gt, mgf, and most recently and the one we helped with, a mini marcos, we stripped anything that could have asbestos in (clutch disc, brake shoes etc) and enclosed all paperwork and a letter stating there was no asbestos is the car. As far as I'm aware he had no issues and is currently restoring it with/for his son.
