Unless the pictures flatter it,the estimate for the green SE5 seems very low.

Probably deliberate to get people interested - it should easily double that estimate IMO.

I have been to Brightwells auction spent 2 days there Wednesday to view Thursday for auction , but could only open the car and hear it run if you first pay a fee and tell them what car you like to view . Yes they do put low estimates on cars to gather lots of interest and hope you will get auction fever and over bid. But once the hammer falls its yours and remember there is a 6% plus vat buyers fee on top . I went to see one estimated at £2500- £3000 it went for £4800 plus fee and vat . I'm not trying to put people off just to be aware and do your sums before you go.

Isn’t it marvellous,I have been looking for a nice 6a for a couple of months now and all that seems to come up for sale is 5s and some very nice cars too. When is a decent 6a going to come for sale ???

A Decent SE6a is very hard to find at a good price , most have got bad body paintwork and will need a respray which I was quoted £5/7 k because it takes so long plus hard to do,and it is very hard to find someone that can do it . I took just under 12 months to get my SE6a , the mechanics are all done even a head conversion but the body needs doing but I just like getting in it and enjoying the drive . So you might have to find one that needs a paint job at a good price but can enjoy it or pay a lot for one that has been painted or wait a lot longer it's up to you . It might be worth a trip to Brightwells auction so you can see what they are like and get a idea of condition and prices.
Hope this can help .
Ian .

Hi Ian , Thank you for your input. I agree with you that a good 6a is hard to find . There are a few projects on the market but that is not what I am looking for , I’m done with projects. My last classic sold quickly and I am left with a healthy bank balance and an empty garage, a situation I am finding hard to live with !! I think the point you made re good mechanics and chassis but poor paint is an avenue to pursue. I will be going to Brightwells purely as a knowledge gathering exercise. Thanks again , Jim

I have been to Brightwells and bought a few "vehicles" over the years, and they charge for everything! from overnight storage to the program you need to purchase to gain entry into the sales area...

I enjoy these auctions, they always bring out some eccentric characters, unknowledgeable comments and some interesting vehicles ..... some "expert comments" on the tired Middlebridge that sold last year made me laugh out loud. There are bargains at most auctions but tend to be vehicles I'm not interested in though......

I much preferred Leominster auctions when I lived there in the 80s :D

Hopefully this link to the catalogue will work....

Details of the GTC will be updated on the register. It is on there, but with a different reg and in a different colour. The Brightwells catalogue info is slightly wrong - it is 269 not 296, and the very useful 'document's' detail the history. Will make a nice car for someone :)

These prices are good news.
Good cars are getting towards the level these deserve. :D
Did you notice the Scimitars got much better prices than the MG Midgets? Only a few years ago it was the other way around.
