Are you specifically looking for an SE6, or do you mean 6 series? There are only a few hundred SE6 or 6b against several thousand 6a. Your budget is reasonable but a car with good original paint is going to be at the top end I imagine.
Jim , Are there several thousand 6a left ? Are the club figures that far out ?
The numbers actually *manufactured* were:

Se6...........551
Se6a........3907
Se6b.........407

So roughly 8 times as many Se6a as Se6. Though in absolute terms, those are all pretty low numbers, even the Se6a is a very rare car, and attrition will have reduced those numbers (perhaps significantly) over the years.

As far as "numbers left" are concerned, the Club's register figures are self-reported, so inevitably are only a proportion of the total remaining. The figures released by DVLA and appearing on the "how many left" website don't differentiate models with any accuracy and only include taxed or SORNed cars (discussed at length in other threads on here), so are at best vague and imprecise.

I meant to write “were” several thousand 6a as opposed to 6 and 6b in the hundreds. Impossible to accurately know how many are actually left and the club records of course, include cars notified as far back as the 70s, so they in no way reflect the numbers left.

Yes, I suspected that might have been the case :) I suspect there's been a fair amount of attrition since the just under 4000 rolled out of the factory!

That makes far more sense. So there were only 3900 built and as Roger said the attrition rate could have been quite high so maybe 2000 left on and off the road would be an educated guess ? Of course we can never know the exact figure .
