Post by accyimp » Tue Jun 25, 2019 8:41 pm

Wanted - by enthusiast (private) new to the forum but not to classic car ownership.

I'm based in East Lancashire with 5 - 7K earmarked for my next classic -
SE6 ideally manual with o/d (earlier car preferred)
original non modified
no colour change
good history/paperwork

I'm aware of the ones currently on ebay and car & classic
If you are thinking of selling a car which meets the brief or know of one then please drop me a PM.
I am willing to travel for the right car,I'm not in any desperate rush & it will go to a good long term home!

Are you specifically looking for an SE6, or do you mean 6 series? There are only a few hundred SE6 or 6b against several thousand 6a. Your budget is reasonable but a car with good original paint is going to be at the top end I imagine.

Very good question! - I am very new to the marque and the different variants etc (much more at home with Ford/Lotus)

Probably meant 6 series! I really wanted a mid seventies car with the Essex engine, original paint not a necessity but don't like colour changes (don't know why)

Thanks - Andrew

PS the ones I missed out on were - a 77 white GTE ( Addlington) & the 83 brown over silver (Somerset)

Apart from a few options, the SE6 has different brakes to the rest of the 6 series and different springs/dampers (although they’ll have been replaced by now). The 6b has the 2.8 Cologne engine, a few structural modifications to stiffen it (as much was shared with the convertible GTC) and the last ones were galvanised. The 6a got several modifications throughout, including latches on the rear seats and better trim.

Colour changes can be done well - obviously door shuts, underbonnet and under window seals are the giveaways of a poor job.

Good luck with the hunt though, have you been along to your local noggin (meeting) to try some out? If you add your location in the user control panel, it will appear below your username on the left. :D

I know some will disagree, but I second what rebel alliance has said. The last 6a cars had a lot of 6b improvements and yet the trusty essex engine. Tis why I repurchased the 79 built car I originally bought new in 80.
I also agree to liking a manual overdrive over an auto box.

Hi
Are you by any chance near Accrington ?.

I`m just over the border in Yorkshire near Skipton.
I have a few "projects" that "Could" be of interest to you.
Well below your budget, and could be "brought" up to your wish list after work.

Mark

Thanks for all the advice so far gents - appreciated. I will definitely be doing some serious reading up on them now and will try to get to a local(ish) meeting if there is one - although I will have to slim down my car club memberships - it's getting out of hand! Club Lotus, Lotus Drivers Club, RS Owners Club oh and The Imp Club  (hence accyimp - I do live in Accrington).
Cheers
Andrew

Hi Mark,
PM'd you
I am indeed - watched a programme recently - apparently they only had 100 available to be inspected for homologation purposes said the other 100 were at a different location (to be viewed following day) and transported the same 100 overnight  don't know how true that was?

Surprisingly close to the truth based on reports I heard over the years (from different sources). They did build the full 200, just not by the time they were “all counted”

Jim , Are there several thousand 6a left ? Are the club figures that far out ?
