Long time no update....

Currently having a new workshop built, having knocked down our decrepit garage. The body is back on the chassis having been trimmed-back somewhat, and the lot is off away having the roll cage fabricated. We’re putting in a floor mounted Tilton pedal box mounted on a steel front floor, welded to the chassis. Also waiting on a custom seat from Motordrive.

Had a bit of a change of direction with the engine/transmission - I chatted to Ric Wood at Autosport and although his engines are great, I can’t justify £13k for a highly-stressed 3.1 Essex with 300bhp and a 12hr life between bearing/valve spring replacement. So we’re going Chevy LS... specifically an L33 (aluminium truck block) destroked to 4.8L. Should be about 350bhp and about 400lb/ft of torque. Even with a hardcore dry-sump kit it comes in way cheaper than the Essex and a whole load lighter! The T5 won’t handle that torque so looking to use a BMW gearbox (E39 530d, E46 330d) instead.

So a Sierra Cosworth T5, Holley carb on Essex manifold, Essex engine and a few other bits going up for sale shortly!

My Chevvy conversion had a TransAm manual box fitted, which had a 10 1/2" clutch, rather than the 9 1/2" Ford unit, and after eating the standard diff`s for breakfast the builder, Scimi Surgeon, fitted a jag lsd.

I still have the spec`s etc somewhere.

Long time no update! Finally have the car back, complete with rollcage, and have picked up the engine - actually a Gen 4 LS (specifically an LH6/LC9 rather than the Gen 3 L33 - but still a 5.3l ally block V8). Have also received my seat and should have my adaptor plate to mate the V8 and BMW gearbox delivered tomorrow.

I’ve welded in some steel to mount the pedalbox to, and fitted the seat and steering column. I’ve also stripped everything out of the engine bay and cleaned it up. A couple more bits to do then I’ll lift the body back off, send the rollcage off to get powdercoated and finish the welding of harness eyebolt plates etc...

I’ve never added a V8 to be honest - and they’re not my favourite engine layout either but I acknowledge their place in the world and how their bhp/£ takes some beating (unless adding wind pumps then the Japanese seem to have that corner covered). I can’t knock anyone fitting one TBH. I seem to be drawn to 5 and 6 cylinder engines for some reason.

Some progress - dashtop and dash made, cage mounts tidied up and cage now out (off for powdercoating next week). Also bought the polycarbonate for the rear, side and door windows - I already have a heated screen squirrelled away for the front:
