Hi everyone,

I guess I haven't really posted any pics of my SS1 1300 as such (apart from SS1 records). Anyway, I have posted a few pics for you to enjoy. :)

Front bumper damage after a careless driver in her Renault Megane revesred into my SS1 despite my blaring my horn and flashing my driving lights at her :(

Temporary repair using small black cable ties. I drove my SS1 around like that until quite recently:-

My SS1 1300 as it looks like today (literally) after I replaced it's front bumper, front N/S wing, front indicators/sidelights units, front driving lights and a partial respray (by a bodyshop):-

I have also done other hidden work to my car including (in no particular order):-

- Welding up part of the rear chassis, welding in new metal as parts of it were missing

- Replaced broken front upper N/S wishbone

- Tidied up wiring (front and rear)

- Replaced Ford VV paperweight with a Weber 32 IBF along with it's correct fitting kit

- Replaced Lucas distributor with a Bosch one

- Replaced fuel tank with a stainless one

- Replaced all of it's fuel hoses and nearly all of it's coolant hoses

- Fitted fan belt tensioner bracket and bolts as they were missing.

- Replaced alternator. It's old one was shot and parts of it had melted away.

- Replaced the fan belt for the correct length 4 ribbed fanbelt (750mm) - QH QBH4750

- Replaced timing belt and it's tensioner

- Replaced heater blower

- Secured hardtop (fitting missing bolts, clamps, etc)

- Replaced it's broken (quite literally) reversing lights switch with one I had custom made myself, which easily fits into it's gearbox. :)

I can't remember what else I have done to it as such as I have done bits to my SS1 on and off.

Did you convert to 5 speed or was that a PO?

It's still got it's original 4 speed (I'm guessing Ford's type E - Sierra) gearbox and I modified a Ford type 9 (Sierra / Capri) reversing lights switch and it fitted my SS1 without any problems at all. :)

The height of my modified switches is about the same as the original Reliant (I'm guessing later spec with spade terminals) reversing light switches, so lots of clearence between the switch and the chassis. :)

Best of all, the reversing lights now work (as they should) again after it's old switch fell apart.

I thought that it is such a great idea, I decided to start making (as in modifying Ford type 9 reversing light switches) and selling them so that other people will benefit too. :)

It wasn't really that difficult. I managed to source Ring BRL0542C which are available on Amazon UK.

All that needs to be done is the following:-

- Remove the non-standard spot lights along with it's wiring

- Use the original mounting holes to support the driving lights with the supplied M8 nuts and bolts and using large 8mm repair washers to avoid any damage to the front bumper

- Enlarge the original cable holes to accomodate the new wires (rated at 8 Amps each or more), glue-lined heatsthrink (to use as a tough outer cable jacket) and male bullet connectors to plug into the car's existing wiring loom.

Good work, always nice to see another 1300 getting attention :)

Have to say though that I much prefer it in the first picture without the spoiler - that's a ghastly addition in my view!

Great work It's good to see an early 1300 being sympathetically restored. I must admit I'm not too sure about the spoiler either, but hey!

I do plan to have the spoiler removed at some point when I think about getting the rest of my car resprayed.

At the moment, I am being a bit careful about money.

I've just tried to look for the SS1 Register. Is it located on here, SS1 Records, etc ?

Hi Phil. Your car does appear on the SS1 register and someone has supplied plenty of images of it sometime in the past. The Club's register contains owner's details but Jim King's register is very comprehensive and is also GDPR compliant. How would you feel about sending me some words on your experiences with this amazing little car. It would make an interesting future article for my Small Sports Spot in Slice. What do you think? You can reach me at mikelima1498@outlook.com. Cheers.

I'd like to do that. :) How concise does the article need to be (number of pages etc) and which file format would you like the article in ?

It may take me a little while to write up an article about my SS1 but I will try to write it as soon as I can.
