Fat pipe up to the 1st silencer.
Which brings up another question....will 2x back boxes silence it enough, or is the original front box the best option?

The turbo will silence it a fair chunk.

I don’t have any silencers on diesel - 3” pipe straight from the turbo - sounds great :D

Might get away with just a back box then 🤔

Diesel Dick cold start

Post by speedy555 » Sun Oct 04, 2020 8:44 am

My new ford book has confirmed that the wires from the injection pump I questioned earlier are as suggested, a cold start device.
My understanding of electrics is just below basic, and injection pumps below that.....so, my understanding from the book is that it is live from the ignition, and the earth is switched (via the extra temp sender) , and when up to temp the earth is switched on, which then turns the cold start solenoid off ?? 🤔❓
Left disconnected as it is now, starting etc isnt an issue, but will there be issues with it once warmed up? Over fuelling? Less performance?
Thanks

Not sure about performance but one in permanent “cold start” mode both smokes more and sounds noisier..stands to reason that it’ll also lose some pit ponies as well?

But I'm correct in my thinking of how its wired and operates?
When I wired mine up it just smoked, so guessing faulty. I'm happy to replace it if worthwhile and my wiring is correct :D

The circuit diagram shows the CAS (10) fed from the ignition switch and earthed via the contacts in the Energy Management Relay (12) so provided the EMR is powered up once the engine is warm then the CAS should drop out and retard the injection timing.
That's my take on it anyway. Diesel experts may be along shortly to tell you the value of my opinion !

No engine management relay on Dick.
I thought earth was supplied via the temp sender.?
Or does the sender supply the earth but goes via the EMR first?
