So the oil pipe was M10 as suggested, but now I've fitted my remote take off it will be far too long so will save it for the GTC.

What I'm short of now is a gasket that goes between the turbo and the cast exhaust manifold elbow. Cant seem to locate one, and without a reg number or part number, Ford aren't being much help.
Would it go again or is it a waste of time?

https://m.autodoc.co.uk/bu/7551823 contains what you need - will look for the FINIS number for the gasket on the EPC later.

Thanks phil. Been into Ford and they are NLA, and no dealer in the country has one anywhere collecting dust ☹

Doesn't surprise me.

The FINIS number did bring a single gasket up on ebay in Italy - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GUARNIZIONE- ... 4845473466 - although they might not fancy posting to the UK..

Thanks. When the lad on parts said WOW that's an ancient part, I knew the chances were slim
Ordered the full set you linked to anyway, at great cost. £9 to post a small bag of gaskets

That’s the downside of AUTODOC- but it’s the same cost to send a full set of shock absorbers

Diesel Dick is Exhausting

Post by speedy555 » Wed Sep 30, 2020 11:22 am

Anyway, here's my somewhat complicated exhaust solution. Once I have all the turbo gaskets I can finish it all off, but in the meantime is the reduction of pipe size down to std. Scimitar system going to cause many issues? It was running on one before right from the manifold, but wondered how much it will restrict it ??

I ran my Scimega on stock systems (with 2" downpipes) and that was 106bhp per bank. Unless you're turning the wick up a lot, you should be fine I'd think. What's that lump give out - 80bhp on a good day?

Yes about 80bhp. Was wondering if an intercooler would be worthwhile? Some are apparently rated at about 100bhp (not sure what in) and can only think that might be down to an intercooler, though sounds a big jump.

Intercooler allows more boost (rule of thumb).

Mondeo/Escort did come in intercooled (90bhp) and the Sierra/Escort looks to be 69 or 74bhp without an intercooler.

Looks to be several pumps to choose from - non-turbo, turbo without any electronics, turbo with PATS and turbo with full electronic control. plus Lucas and Bosch - and I think (from my days messing with Citroen diesels) the injectors and pump have to match too...

The cross-sectional area is the defining issue; 45 squared is 2025, 60 squared is 3600 therefore the exhaust gas will flow 1.8 x faster in the narrower pipe.
IMO all this will mean is less time for silencing, so it might be louder; can't imagine it will impede the flow significantly.
Other opinions might be along shortly.

Theoretically a turbo needs a bigger pipe than the equivalent normally aspirated engine as you’ve just sucked the energy out of the exhaust gasses (so it should be moving slower) to spin the turbo but you’ve got a larger down pipe anyway based on your picture above. Worst case is it might spool a bit later but we’re hardly talking about a race engine here..
