Ben's SS1 - Ti Sprint Car

Post by Benc » Sat Oct 03, 2020 7:35 pm

I've just exchanged msgs with Trevor and the wiring loom I have is not the actual one that belonged to the engine which is now starting to make sense. I think I have a LHD EFI harness.

For some reason the power transistor (PT) plugs aren't in the harness but I do have some plugs with cable on them that do fit the PT. That wiring is T off the wires that go from the eccs plug to a brown and grey plug they then T back to the wires that go to the IG coils.

Following the wiring diagram the PT for LHD looks like it had a small harness that went to the plugs below

Steve if you have a spare harness I'd like to loan it for a few days...

Sorry misread your post. You have a 4 pin MAF but a three pin plug. I think I may have the connectors and wiring to sort that out for you.
Cheers yes a 4 pin maf plug with a length of wire on it would be useful although I suppose I have this on the et!

I'm trying to leave the et wiring loom unbutchered :D

I think 4 pin MAF is the same connector as the CAS.

Just found this post on SXOC which may help
The early AFMs on a 13 are 4-pin with a connection for idle adjustment where later AFMs are 3-pin (as the idle adjustment is managed by the lambda sensor fitted to later cars). Z32 AFMs are 6-pin and there are details in Tech S13 on how to wire them.
....and on other forums the word is that the four pin MAF on a DET (early cars) is the same MAF as the S12 ET.

Cheers Steve.

I have a 3 pin maf on route and have a lamba sensor so might give that a go. I'm going to email Horsham Dev to discuss a few things so will add this to ze list.

Dropping wires for a bit for brakes my Wilwoods should arrive tomorrow. Took the discs to work today and tickled the bore on our large lathe :D

I've modified a used wheel bearing to easy slide fit so will be able to mock the position of the caliper to enable a bit more turning for the spacer in the next few days

Yes it is its about 5 meter centers. We have a second smaller lathe as well.

I might tickle the disc mounting holes on the Bridgeport milling machine tomorrow.

I haven't done much machining since I was at apprentice school. I normally ask one of the craftsmen to do it for me but the last year or so I've been doing it all myself. Quite enjoyable

Lathe tut.... I used a dremmel  https://scimitarweb.co.uk/sgwrs/viewtop ... 3&p=406901

Did you manage to get the Wilwoods I sent the link for, or did you get the replacement? I sent the same link to Nick K, and I don't think he could get them, so bought the later version.

Regarding the Lambda, I checked my photos of the DET racer, and that had a four pin MAF (same as ET) and no lambda, which confirms earlier research.

Forgot to say. If you can confirm the Wilwood part numbers, I'll add that to the SS1 brake upgrade article I'm writing up for Slice (it's been on the go for about 12 months, but as Jim Pace is looking for more material, I should really crack on with it).

That’s the fellas, basically the later version of the ones I used. If you’re copying my build, I have the fine (m12 I think) tap for widening the threads in the uprights. You’re welcome to borrow it.

Thank you Steve I am going to investigate making some bushes / sleeves. I will let you know if I decide to retap.

My thinking was that the standard bolts didn’t look to be up to the job. I’m sure they are, just me being a bit belt and braces

Steve another reason to think of bushing them down is that the caliper mounting holes are 0.45" or 11.4mm

A m12 screw wont pass through an 11.4mm hole
Did you enlarge your wilwood mounting holes to 12mm? :?
