New water pump on order, unblocked the bypass pipe, cleaned up the elbow and declared it (just about) fit for duty..

Good bit was I had it almost stripped down in just over an hour. Will take a bit longer to bolt back together though.

Revised job list..

Fit new water pump and bolt engine back together. Hopefully fill coolant for the last time.

Brace the boot to stop it becoming a parachute.
Feed battery cable the last 2 feet. Don’t forget fuel pump feed and fuel gauge wire.
Weld cage feet in..and refit cage. Make new floor.
Fill gearbox and turret with oil
Fit last pair of prop bolts.
Bolt gearbox crossmember in.
Find a way of attaching a bonnet.
Trim nose cone to fit.
Wire in chargecooler pump.

Today’s progress was just the cage feet..

Remove extraneous bits of floor.
Mark position for plates on sill.
Remove cage.
Remove galvanising for areas to weld to.
Realise you’ve just removed your positions for the plates with the grinder.
Refit cage loosely until it’s about where you thought it was.
Remove cage legs (again).
Weld plates in, remembering to put out small fires from flammable pieces you didn’t think would be an issue.
Weld up the holes you blew in the inner sill because you left the welder on MAX setting.
Reassemble cage.
Retire with a beverage.

Also got the 14” tyres fitted to more suitably sized rims.

Small fires are so useful for removing the sealant that has gone all hard

Well, it ran :D

And 10 minutes later sputtered to a halt. Seized HP fuel pump (NOS Bosch too).

Too much to do (that I know of, let alone any more curve balls) and not enough time left means I won’t be at Curborough now.

Off to sample a bottle of something.

Bad news, the SS1 won't be at Curbs.

Good news is thanks to the huge generosity of Team Carter, looks like I'll be racing 8) See you at the weekend..
