Finally got inlet and exhaust valves and collets from Burtons so delivered them to the engine builder.

Carried on with tissueing repaired areas and started repairing excess holes in the interior. Loads more sanding done, what a surprise! Cut proper holes in the rear parcel shelf for speakers, now have to repair the old ones.

So I felt a change was needed from sanding and took the vinyl cover off the rear seat to gain access to the broken and spinning fasteners. The multi-tool and drill with wizzy wheel made swift work of removing the parsimonious glassing that Reliant used, new stainless washers and studding was welded to replace the originals. An extra one is to be used for a headlight surround.

That wasn't really a great effort from Reliant was it ? :? You have it nailed now though

Sanded (have I mentioned doing sanding before?) the areas of the rear seat attachments, two additional repairs too and glassed them in, as well as several body repairs that needed building up past their true contours. Did some minor metal bashing to make a replacement bracket which lives in the boot roof and holds the tank/luggage space separator and glassed it in. Glassed the headlight surround fastening and repair patches too.

Enjoyed the metal bashing so much that I did some more! The body isn't supported very well where the trans tunnel tapers outwards so I did a bit of measuring and made two cantilever brackets and welded them on to the main chassis rails.

Sanded loads of repair locations but there'll all small bits, not worth a resin mix so got the false boot floor down from storage and found lots of nicks, dings and cracks so I'll add those to the list. Quite often I've mixed resin and belted around the body due to the limited fluid time then had to stop and clean up only to find I'd missed one or two patches I had prepped!

Red oxided and blacked the chassis extensions then decided to glue the closed cell foam with paint! Proper job!

I also abraded the rear seat tub to remove the old adhesive and roughen it for the new glue.

Hi Brian, did you refurbish your steering rack . Now I’ve replaced my trunnions and loosened everything up the ‘chatter’ of the rack has returned

No. Haven't been able to do that yet. Nearest engineering shops with the capacity seem to be Brumigem or Manchester! If the play is only about the straight ahead but disappears on the locks then the rack shaft is worn by the slipper which wears on the diametrical face opposite the gear teeth and needs cylindrical grinding.

I've adjusted the shims to achieve minimal play on full lock but still have slop straight ahead, not nice!

Thank you, I’ve the same, just chatter when driving at speed on say a dual carriageway indicating a bit of play. I’ve got a spare with the same, so might send that for reconditioning.

Got the false boot floor stiffened and the abraded corners repaired.

Found a strengthener in the boot roof that had been partially removed to allow a speaker to be fitted so made a tapered thingy and started glassing it in. During the prep for that I managed to remove the remaining horsehair from the fuel tank space.

Finally did the last structural repair to the passenger cill.

More little lay ups done and a start made on finishing the front wheel wells. There are ten removable access panels in the body for various thingies so I'm laying up new ones.

Major progress today was getting the rear seat tub, foam and vinyl cover over to the re-upholsterer and talking through what I'd like. Tiny unit in the countryside with skill, knowledge and experience hidden inside, the sort of place where men in sheds produce quality work.
