One fitted by Reliant which was burnt in a couple of places and a second hand one made by Reliant which I started to use to replace the first but tbh it was undamaged but as poorly put together as the first. Who uses steel fencing rings to crimp cables together? Steel instead of brass was a botch for a price when new but after 30 years its a botch that just is going to continue give rise to high resistance, and hence burnt looms.
So, as Jim says, cure the problem not the symptoms.
This meant loosing the both the looms and starting again with fresh, well designed & better executed. And as I don’t have the time that meant shipping it to someone with an eye for detail & skills to do it right. Hence it’s residence at Paul’s.

Can’t argue with the logic there, Bryan.

Evening all, as part of the changes to JPS, the club roll-hoop has been replaced by the 4-point cage with back stays. Unfortunately the back stays go right through the space that the standard tank ends occupy! So a bit of searching on the forum revealed a drawing done by Stew Bramham for his (now Craig’s) Sabre.
After a bit of a false start with a fabricator who never seamed to be able to get round to giving me a call back or a price, I contacted Spencer at SM Engineering. I sent him the drawing, had a conversation, made a couple changes and agreed a price. 2 weeks from contacting him and this turned up at Paul’s!

Progress update
- floor lowered on driver side
- shell seat fitted to runners
- light weight heater & fan fitted
- alloy petrol tank fitted
- 4 point cage fitted
- engine block painted gold
- rocker cover painted black & gold
- body panels delivered to painter

So after stripping the doors to shells, I need some advice:
- the rubber strip to the door top/window is beyond repair- source for replacements?
- both mirrors have seen better days- source for replacements?
- hopefully I can make 2 decent frames out of the 4 I have but if not has anyone had any re-manufactured?

This weekend I shall be stripping the other 2 doors and playing with flocking the dash, clock bunicul & center console!

I may have a couple of electric mirrors available, but I’ll have to check.

When I was looking for door waist weather strip, Woolies didn't have what I wanted, but Car Builder Solutions did.

I’ve stripped all 4 doors and I’m left with the following:-
- 1 passenger side frame is serviceable, replacement of the bottom channel & a bit of paint and she’s good to go.😎
- 1 of the drivers side frames is a very difficult save! It’s going to need some very careful welding to repair the frame at door top level on the sliding window channel and the bottom channel replacement 😬
- The other 2 are completely scrap😕

Now as I’m not a fan of difficult & careful repairs, I’m on the hunt for a better drivers side frame!

Did you buy the only 4-door SS1 in existence? It will surely be difficult to find replacements for those rear door frames!

I had a look for the mirrors Bryan, but couldn't find them. So I've either sold them on and forgotten or put them in a very safe place that I've also forgotten. What was the question again??

I'll keep looking....

🤣
Daryl had a couple of doors going spare which I had.
I’ve stripped them down & just delivered the carcasses back to him so he can make a couple of moulds from them.

No worries, I think I can refurbish mine with a bit of time.

Ah, my mistake, not a 4-door SS1, that would be Just Plain Silly!
