Some years ago, there was an Aston DB7 at an 'H&H' auction at Buxton....I think it had been done in gold leaf & had a cluster of 'diamonds' in the middle of the bonnet (obviously not of a very high carat) as it fetched less than one in standard trim would have sold for...!! Had been done for someone in that neck-of-the-woods.......

scimitarcars.org.uk wrote:I know it's only been a few weeks, but I'm thinking of selling the 5A. As I may have the opportunity to buy something I want more :D , but I'm not saying so don't ask

Alternatively, if anyone knows of some covered and secure storage in the North West, then please let me know as that would mean I can keep it.

So If anyone is interested in an extremely tidy SE5A Manual, with a service history like War and Peace. A very very very very sweet engine and gearbox. Then let me know. There are two outstanding faults that I have all the parts to fix. A leaky sump (Sump and gaskets here) A cracked bottom wishbone bracket (full set of reinforced brackets here), I'll do these two jobs as soon as I get chance.

I'm not looking to make a single penny out of this car, I'd just like my money back.

I've decided that I will now be selling this car but it will have all the little jobs done.

So if anyone is interested please let me know.

In addition to the above, it will come fitted with four uprated lower wishbone brackets, full set of new cooling hoses with new clips and stainless make up pipes, complete fully adjustable GAZ suspension system with uprated springs, rebuilt & poly bushed front end, new footwell carpets, new (list 1A) tyres and six month's tax. It will be ideal for both showing and sprinting :D This car has had a body off rebuild, and the chassis and drive train are superb, the braking system is virtually new and the rear axle was recently rebuilt.

The selling price will be £4750. If anyone is interested, but want's a cheaper specification, then I'm all ears.

I doubt that there will be a better sorted 5A out there for the same money, and I should add that I am not making a penny out this :(

The 5A is now sold, or it will be once I've got my finger out and fitted the suspension and wishbone brackets. It's new owner should be taking delivery in the next 3-4 weeks.

I'll be sorry to see it go, but I just don't have the time or space for it at the moment. I will probably be kicking myself come the summer.

Nothing ATM, and no plans to buy anything. Just ordered an A4 Avant, so I've spent enough for the time being

I did have my eye on a Lotus Esprit turbo a few weeks ago, but I've decided I just don't have the time for a 2nd toy as well as developing the SS1 racer.

I only have time to fettle one at the moment. I have been toying with the idea of building a Sabre DET or maybe an SR20DET (If it'll fit), or even doing the same to a GTE :D But as I say, no time to do either, and I'm looking forward to having some more space in the garage to fettle the SS1. I've still got the extinguisher to fit, along with some wheel arch mods, rear tow point etc...

Starting to get the car ready for its new owner this week.

This morning I spent rebuilding the front O/S suspension with new wishbone brackets, shocks and springs. I know this has been mentioned loads of times, but for anyone new to Scimitars it is important to keep an eye on the lower wishbone brackets if they haven't been updated to the strengthened type.

Cracked bracket:-

Side by side, strengthened and original (note the strengthening ridges and the thicker steel):-

Rebuilt suspension :-

Hopefully I'll get the other side done tomorrow along with the rear shocks and springs. This should be a really sharp handling car when it's finished. 8)

The blue 5A is now with it's new owner in Derbyshire.

Last pics before I towed it away.........

At least I now know I can get a 5A on my trailer, for when I get older and struggle to get in an SS1 sprint car  :w
