GOX 913W GTC joins the yellow fleet.

Post by AJL Electronics » Tue Sep 25, 2012 6:33 pm

Just collected this GTC from Tony Green. It is in generally good condition and clearly has been polished regularly, the bodywork looks splendid apart from the few chips etc. It is much as he described it and he was good enough to accept my derisory offer for it. Scared me to death when I filled it with fuel. It's the first time I have put in over £100 in one go.

The weather was appalling and the journey south was over 4 hours. Anyway, safely home and busy defrosting 'er indoors. I will put it on the lift tomorrow for a poke about underneath. Looks like it wasn't using too much fuel, gauge didn't move much on the journey back. Temperature solid at 90 all the way, regardless of load. A few jobs to do when I have chance..

1) Clutch adjustment.
2) Heater doesn't work.
3) Speedo faulty.
4) Fuel line needs replacing.
5) Interior re-upholstery.
6) Hood Velcro body side replacement.
7) Radio replacement (no display)
8. Change steering wheel with an original
9) Replace gear knob
10) Sort driver's door mirror adjustment, maybe fit XJS Electric mirrors.
11) See if I can improve the harshness of the exhaust.
12) Investigate light load misfire.

You need to swap it with Dave so you have the yellow one :-)

Dave has a yellow one? I would like a yellow automatic GTC if there was one going! I was thinking of the A4LD auto box for this one perhaps. There is always someone who doesn't understand how nice an auto is to drive and wants to go back to a pudding stirrer. ;-) Bodywork is a bit too good to change the colour really, there are some chips and the spoiler / headlamp bezels want doing and I might body colour them.

If you're going A4LD - I'd go the whole hog and fit a 2.9i (as Dave has)?

Lovely idea. 2 things, I don't have a 2.9i power plant and 2) I do have what I believe to be a very good 2.8. However, should a 2.9i (Cosworth would be nice) appear, I could use the 2.8 in YHK I suppose? Maybe I should buy a scrap Scorpio and then ask you to come and give me a hand?

6 years and 16,000 miles ago it had an engine fitted that had been stored for around 20 years. I'd rather have my old engine reconditioned.

My point was, the 2.9i is a much better engine and if removed complete with the box would make it a simpler install.

You Have bought a very very nice car if I was aloud access to that sort of money she wouldn't have left the family! I think the miss fire is lack of use! (landrover is too easy)
Please look after her I know my Dad was very sad to see her go
Will look forward to seeing updates
Oh the steering wheel was changed as the steering was too light and the exhaust is due to the manifolds change them to cast iron and it will be quieter alternatively longlife!
