Mocked up the adaptor plate with manifold fitted - also checked the injectors and loom (removed the plastic cover for clearance)

Then I did some CAD work to make a plate that I can mount the coil pack on as the inlet wants to occupy the space it would normally be in (on the back of the engine)

I’m guessing that adaptor plate pulls the upper plenum in a bit closer than the current one?

It does yes, but it was the plastic surround on the Ford loom that was touching the upper section so I just removed it and will either tape it or use a split conduit.

Just for my reference - the standard water pump needs to rotate anti-clockwise, so either mount an idler pulley top right like this:

71187F97-7423-4AB3-8A7B-2DD3C6D120CF.jpeg (95.14 KiB) Viewed 407 times
Or fit a reverse direction impeller and run it clockwise

Obviously, one needs a ribbed pulley, the other needs a smooth pulley.

The Escort Cosworth power steering pump pulley is of the ribbed variety and a 3 bolt fixing with the same PCD - sounds cheap? :D

There’s not a lot of drive on the water pump in the top configuration

Agreed, I’d like to see the idler pulley a lot lower down. Billet reverse impellers are about £60 but I think I’ll look at making an idler layout myself first.

What’s the PCD of the water pump pulley? I’ve collected a few in the course of my supercharger belt run design. There’s also a 4-rib, 3 bolt one on the MX5 engine..

Don’t forget you can get double faced polyvee belts allowing you less wrap (going CCW) and still get enough power transfer.

My scimega has a very short kiss on the water pump, similar to the above. Seemed to work fine, I presume as it’s only pushing water, the water resistance is low compared say to an alternator,

Rather than adding weight, I’ve decided to go with the reverse impeller (having found one only a few quid more than Cost of the the idler and bracket).

Today, I threw some primer at some of the panels

after some thought, I decided that I shouldn’t be adding weight, so £55 later a reverse direction water pump impeller has arrived 😎
