Adjusting valve clearance

Post by Eric2205 » Mon Aug 12, 2019 4:42 pm

Hello,

On my Se5a yesterday I had to adjust the valve clearance
I made the adjustment about 1000 miles ago.

For valve 1 it was essential

Two pics with the help of my wife

Use a drop of your pink nail varnish to mark where the nut is screwed to, and then see if the nut has moved after a few miles? 8)

I woke up in the night dreaming about your pink nail varnish
I wondered about putting some on the rocker arm too, in case it's the stud unscrewing in the head, and not the nut loose on the stud.

Probably best to gloss-over the nail varnish incident......

The studs aren't screwed-in as standard, they're just an interference fit. (They sometimes push out if you have a timing gear failure, and valves hit pistons). If you think one might be coming out, you could put a straight edge across their tops?
