Door Installation

Post by 72scimitar » Wed Mar 13, 2019 7:56 am

Hi Guys,
New member here from Australia, just picked up this beauty which had its doors removed, just wondering if anyone can help with some Installation tips, such as which plates do I use, which bolts etc, I've got 16 nuts which have had nylon nuts on them but doesn't seem right.
Any help would be great
Cheers

Door Installation

Post by peter freeman » Wed Mar 13, 2019 10:09 am

If I remember correctly the bolts are normally fixed ( spot welded will do ) to the plates which go into the door - top and 2nd plates to the right look like the normal ones and the nuts go on the outside with plain washers. easier to do if you use a trolley jack to support the door when fitting. Slots on the hinges to get the door lined up correctly.

welcome to the forum :D

I'd say that all of those bits are home made - the 4 on the left probably go inside the door as load spreaders for the bolts (as Peter says, they'd be welded to a plate as standard) and the 3 smaller ones could be spacers to go between the door and the hinge? The large plate on the right is to mount the window winder mechanism on. If I can find a photo of a complete door, I'll copy it here because I think you're missing the plate that the door pull mounts too.

Thanks for the replies.
The silver plates on the left are threaded. So this would achieve the same thing as been welded if the bolts are screwed through these from inside the door, any idea how long the bolts should be? As the ones I have appear to be too short.

Door Installation

Thanks guys, I've managed to fit one of the doors, seems to work ok.
Thanks for the photos of some of the plates fitted, hard to put something back together when I wasnt the one who pulled it apart, got containers of 100s of pieces just for the doors, like a giant jigsaw puzzle, here in Australia there is next to no info on the scimitar. I have some manuals which are helping a bit.
Cheers Matt
