Please bear with me if this gets very untechnical... After being quite a reliable starter it became a bit difficult to start, the ignition light went half out when running, dimmed further as revs increased, sometimes it went out as it should. The volt meter slowly rose to 15 then slowly dropped back to 12, then up and down again, engine revs did seem to have an effect and volts drop when all lights are turned on, during this the ignition light was virtually out but not quite. I've tested the battery, not running 12.4v, running 13.58v. I've checked the alternator multi plug, cleaned the contacts etc. Checked the wiring as far as I can, can't see any obvious damage, checked and cleaned the regulator connectors, other than that the Car runs well.
Thanks in advance Pommy

Thanks Jim, the alternator has been on the car for many years, would it be more cost effective to replace rather than repair, maybe upgrade to a higher power unit, which would you recommend. Pommy

If it’s the original ACR type, I’d probably upgrade it and switch to an A127 type which has easily replaceable brush and regulator pack on the back.

Pommy, I reckon our cars must be sending each other signals, as mine seems to suffer the same issues at the same time as yours. It was the same with the cutting out when warm, and now with the dodgy ignition light!
For what it's worth, I've got an uprated 50amp 17ACR alternator on its way - decided just to simply replace rather than faff about trying to find the dodgy part.
Hope you get to the bottom of it.
Tom
