To join the old and new tube, or just to repair?

I’d be surprised if The Metal Store don’t have the correct tube - they had decent thickness 1.5” square tube (that wasn’t the think junk used for table legs) when no one else did.

Just put new tube inside - the holes in the picture are very strange, there’s really thick metal surrounding them - it’s not the usual silk lattice.

I have a chassis roller to tip em over for welding, done loads of work with it, don`t get sparks down your sleeves.
