Replacing girling servo with lockheed

Post by Gillsfan » Sat May 23, 2020 7:31 pm

I'm looking for some help/advice, please. I'm about to replace my U/S Girling servo with a Lockheed one which is on its way from Jim King (thank you again). Unfortunately, Jim didn't have a spare bracket so I'm intending to fabricate one, could I ask one of you fine people to take a photo and some measurements, please.

I'm anticipating making up new pipes, I've got spare brake pipe/unions/bender/flaring tool. Is there anything else I need to consider, I saw something while googling about mounting it at an angle between 25°/45° is that relevant to the scimitar? It looks level in photos I've seen.

It's the only thing keeping Rat Rod off the road, so I'm really keen to get it fitted

Rightly or wrongly it worked fine.

I think that’s the old Girling bracket in situ with a half moon one holding the servo on. It didn’t move.

I think I picked up one of the studs on the back of the servo (just visible) but can’t remember where I bolted it to  might have been a hinge bolt but they aren’t in the same place anyway as this was a 5a.

Phil that looks like it's been fitted to the old girling bracket, which I left on the Girling servo I posted to Jim yesterday. Seems the angle doesn't matter, I'm sure I can bend some metal into a suitable bracket........

There isn’t room under the bonnet to mount it in the recommended way, so Reliant made brackets for them.

Here's how mine fitted. Made a bracket for the front and used one of the Girling bolt holes in the wing. The rear bracket came with the servo but is only a piece of plate bent at not quite 90 degrees to give a nose up installation. (couldn't get a photo of this)

Main bracket is fitted around bonnet hinge - three bolts is more than enough:

Instructions are here: https://mossmotors.com/media/instructions/981-173.pdf
That's the instructions I'd seen which is why I asked about the angle.

Thank you all.
