Old car badges wanted by collector

Post by philhoward » Tue Dec 17, 2019 3:26 pm

The following email has come through (nothing to do with the RSSOC) to both myself (via ss1turbo.com) and our webmaster:

Hi,

My name is Marc Veenhuis, I am a 56 years old car enthusiast.
I’ve had 7 strokes and I have most physical difficulties from them.
But to keep being involved in cars I collect car badges.
Do you have an old Reliant badge for my collection please ?
Important beautiful cars like the Reliant shouldn’t be missing in a collection
Thank you very much and have a wonderful holiday season

With kindest regards,

Marc Veenhuis

Although I'm not an Instagram user, a brief look (before it asked me to join up) suggests he already has a good collection of badges (I saw Volvo, Fiat and Mercedes). I've withheld his address and have his email address which I won't post publicly but if you have any old badges you are willing to send on to Marc, drop me a PM or email and I'll forward his details (full postal address and email) on to you.

Ah, that saves me checking up on this as he seems to have sent the same email to a number of RSSOC addresses, I had it come through on the MB registrar address.

Kindest Regards

No need to be so coy about his address, Phil - it's all over the internet. Seems this appeal has been going out for at least 20 (!) years, all over the US at least. So by now his collection must be pretty huge.

I was pleased to see I'm not the only ultra-cynical old git out there, lots of others have immediately suspected some sort of scam, but those who have checked it out reckon this is a genuine appeal. Me, I make no comment, except to note that the address I've found is this:

Marc Veenhis
Boomgaard 10
7021 KZ Velswijk-Zelhem
Holland / The Netherlands
tel / fax: 0031-314-641 838

and it does exist, according to Google maps. Even has a disabled parking bay outside.

We too have received the same message, except for us he has expanded the reference to "Reliant" to "Reliant Sabre".

I think there’s a fair amount of copy and paste...
