Dashboard Inspirations ?

My dash took a lot of work but I'm not sure. Fast road car will be the final result at the moment so want a bit of comfort / panache (although lets not forget its a scimitar)

I think the structure is good, but I would use 1/4" scrim foam on the silver bits and then black vinyl. That would look classy and contast nicely with the main colour.

I’d cover the alloy in black crinkle paint?

The orange bit it is what sits underneath the original 5a plastic dash offering the main strength. I stripped / prepped and painted it. The aluminum plate is of my making

I think I'm right in saying that only the earliest 3.8 S1 E-types had bare alloy dashes? That being so, a black vinyl covering would still be true to your inspiration (toggle switches as well!), but perhaps look more "finished"? (and cut down on reflections). Or crackle finish perhaps for a more "competition" look? In the end though, it's an aesthetic decision, and you're the one who will have to stare at it!

I recall comments of not being able to see easily due to glare? Something to consider on version 2.0

Mikey, I can send you the scrim foam and vinyl if you want it, or I will cover it for you.

I am doing a similar thing, slow time, after having see Mikey's dash. I used some Halfords textured paint, but the sand colour is too bright for my tan interior. I will have to darken it a bit. I might go for a wood finish to the flat panel.

Andy, I am trying to decide of which material I am going to make the main panel out of. I was thinking of marine Ply, but there is a bend in it, so I am thinking of scoring the back to bend it and then to glass the back to hold the angle. I need to insert a small fillet next to vents also. Alloy might be the answer, but can that be dipped? Then there is the area in from of the heater, which I am going to keep, as it works fine.

Mainly been varnishing boats this winter.....

Mikey, what is the extra gauge that you have installed next to the vents? It is right in the area of the 'cut' for the bend. On purpose I presume.

Alloy would be a good choice I think. Any material can be dipped so don't worry about that.

I'm worried Mike has been abducted by aliens and replaced by a replicant. The old Mike used rmto rock up with gearboxes with no oil in and dashboards and footwells glowed with the light from dodgy connections in the wiring arcing nicely in the early morning mist.
Worrying about style based on E types??!! Nah can't be our Mikey, gotta be an imposter...
