pop-up headlights

The Marina based SRV2. Pedestrian safe bumpers, retractable headlights and lots of interior padding to protect passengers - still looks awful :D

Apparently MTX were an aftermarket tuning company (think Prodrive in Czechoslovakia - hotted up Skodas and Ladas) and had plans for mass production with Tata in 1991. Unfortunately the factory burnt down after only 3 prototypes were built (red, white and a black car that is still in the sports car museum in Lany) and a fourth car was sent to America in kit form. It’s most famous appearance was in the opening scenes of Kanye West’s film, runaway.

pop-up headlights

Post by Alan SS1 » Mon Dec 25, 2017 9:45 pm

i know a late post but that awful MARINA has a sort of TR7 ( ish) look to it . . . . .

if it was possible to make the MARINA worse in appearance then they DID succeed with that 'safety version' maybe so awful to loook at that nobody would buy it so you couldn't hit anything?

SS1 1600 (AJZ ----), C30 (SK 57 ---)& 480 ( .. . EVU & . . . . CDC)
Regal 330 (VAV ---) now passed to another 'keen owner'

And here’s the 1934 patent for the first car with popup headlights - the Cord 810 (the actual positioning was moved forwards on the wing in production)
