Scimitar prices in Germany

Post by tanuki » Tue Apr 10, 2018 5:45 pm

My journalist friend went to the Essen Classic Motorshow two weeks ago and brought back
THE reference book in Germany for classic car estimations: Oldtimer Markt Preise guide ...

I let you discover how much our Scimitars are estimated this year  ... well at least on the German market
Note1 obviously corresponds to "concours state" ... down to Note5 for a "non running project" - I guess -

Prices are in euros, so take out 10/15 % to figure out the price in pounds

Interesting enough, the "evolution" columns seems to indicate that GTEs are slightly going down,
but that SS1/Sabre become trendy
Also the "price when new" last column is quite interesting: late GTEs & GTCs were twice more expensive
than the previous generations (!) ... maybe because of the Cologne engine :? ?

Cheers,
Fred

They obviously value them more ,I would have thought that the prices converted into £s should be what they ought to be over here considering how good they are .

Well spotted Fred.
Interesting that Scimitars are listed in the 'Exotics' section, perhaps that's why they are expensive 8)

This may be a wake-up call for UK residents.

A hord of cars may be leaving your country soon, looking a these price levels :-)

When I sold my Land Rover Series 3[for£2500] I was told it was going to Landypoint in Germany.
When I looked at their website it was up for 19000 euros!
Nothing had been done to it either.

I suspect the leap in price at that point would have also had a lot to do with the inflation rate at the time, which I think was running at about 12-15% in the late 70s/early 80s, as well as attempts to move the cars more upmarket?

Is there a similar table for current values in France, Fred?

Just my personal estimate from looking at prices in France, I'd suggest it is in line with Germany, with a small lower value on the SS1 range and a bit higher on the earlier cars.

La Vie Auto list Scimitars but their valuations are not very sophisticated ...

(and I don't think their GTC evaluation is very realistic)

Very few have been sold in France in recent years, there are quite a few cars but nearly all bought in the UK.
The only mention is by an 'expert', who wants you to sign up to see the price ;-)

Prices for pointy cars are even in the Netherlands hard to give. Hardly any known sales. More important - good cars are not offered for sale, only project or non runners.
Projects tend to cost as much as in the UK, with transort to NL included in the prices.
Owners of good cars tend to keep them.

Scimitar prices in Germany

Post by Pepe » Mon Oct 15, 2018 6:10 pm

Well Guys,

I think the prices in Germany are very much just estimate rather than real value numers. There is simply too less cars that are in the market and evaluated by the market.

Mine for example is inbetween a 1 and 2 Mark. Although it is a realistic 2-3 I'd say. Anyway, there are some cars around but I think the general price is low. And only some wnat/like one, as it is almost always RHD. Many like the car but some hate it :)
The market is small and in motion.
Pretty surely there won't be a good market in Germany at least for the Scimitar soon...

I guess the Scimitar would be more appreciated on the island of England honestly.
