First outing of the year

Post by DARK STAR » Fri Feb 22, 2019 9:13 pm

Having missed the first rally in Golfe-Juan this year I made the effort to dust off the car for the second.
The weather was not ideal but we could not ask for better in early February 8)
Besides the regulars, Peugeot, Simca, Porsche, Corvette, Mustang, Scimitar, there were a lot of ... Minis!
Less usual, there was an Opel Rekord Coupé, I thought a Commodore but apparently it’s the same thing except the engine.
An MGB that Gerard Hartmann bought recently following the sale of one of his Peugeot 404.
A Jaguar 4 litre ‘straight six' with three huge double Webers.
A splendid Ford Capri in yellow and black of its period.
A strange apparition that seemed to be new and was running on ‘W' plates, badged Rolls Royce but for me it was a Bentley!
A 6-metre 2-door convertible - yes it was a Cadillac.
The indisputable star of the day, an Alfa Romeo Montreal, breathtaking :-)
Two cars released for the first time after winter renovations, a BMW and an Alfa.
And something that seemed pretty commonplace until we opened the bonnet, a Ford Taunus … with 1.3 litre V4 engine mounted entirely in front of the axle, and without cooling fan (yes, there was a radiator, anyway ;-)

Nah, it was pretty mediocre weather - look everyone is wearing jackets.
Mind you, I saw a couple of lizards in the garden when the sun came out.
Peter, I am amazed butterflies can survive that far north

Me the same with a peacock in the workshop (put him outside) and two bumble bees worrying the snowdrops.
My FOOTY was a 10 mile potter round the back lanes in Kirsty with new Weber DFT - very satisfactory! :D

Thanks for the photos, indeed the BMW CS and the Montecarlo seem gorgeous.
Concerning the RR, it's a Silver Seraph, the equivalent Bentley was the Arnage. I guess it was the last time that RR and Bentley were sharing the same body.
