Scimi31 - the Occitan noggin

Post by landschrabbler » Mon Dec 07, 2015 8:48 pm

Okay, okay, I know... it is not a show... but an event nonetheless 8) as this weekend saw the (correct me if I counted wrong) third-largest Scimitar meeting in France in 2015:

Scimi31

You might not remember:
landschrabbler wrote:Today saw the first gathering of... Scimi31, a rather small, yet unkown subsection of ScimitarFrance  attendants where the "bête" and the lovely LHD-converted SE6 of Francis Martin.

That was last year, just after I bought "la bête", and it took over a year for these two Scimitars to join again. Occasion: the monthly meeting at the Grand Rond in Toulouse.

We had been planing this for quite a while now, but Francis experienced some problems with the cooling sytem, then ran ot of CT (MOT for the English), and on top of that he was busy with the interior rework of his LHD-conversion - but finally I got a mail saying "Let's show Toulouse 10% of the French Scimitars!".

But first we must take some time to take a look at Francis' (imho) inspiring work:

In detail:

And now the... meeting :D

As you can see, we drew a lot of attention...

Well that was it, the Occitan noggin of Scimi31 - we are looking forward to repeat this next year, hopefully earlier than December :?

Brilliant!

Great report and great pics of Francis' left-hand-drive conversion, thanks Jörg.

And very sensible not to have swapped the handbrake over. That's my one criticism of the LHD conversion of the GTC - impossible to select reverse with the handbrake on! I don't need to do it very often - thank goodness - but reverse hill starts are VERY tricky!

Congratulations! Yes, that is really inspiring work! All that plumbing and wiring, and the windscreen wipers still in the same place! Francis is obviously quite talented. So you are all active "dahn sarf", we are pretty active "oop norf" - so what's the chances of organising a mid-way meeting next year? Try to make a "noggin" somewhere around Lyon (or maybe a bit further North)? Just and idea. :w :D

We are looking at the idea of having the SouthoFrance Sortie at Lyon in september,
it was my idea to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the first edition which was also at Lyon.

Thanks Jörg for those great photos as usual :hurrah:
How come your meetings in Toulouse are always sunny 8) ?
It's nice to see Francis' car in details, nice conversion job indeed .. and one more LHD Scimi on the road
Looking forward to meeting sometimes next year !!

About next year's meetings btw, we may have a busy calendar ... cf. Jörg's event calendar !
I met Fred Hermand on Sunday and he said he's ready to go again to Classic Days at the end of April - so that makes 3 interested so far -
With the Coupes de l'Age D'or in early June, the International at the end of June and Le Mans Classic in early July ... that could make it
difficult to fit a mid-year northern meeting in between, unless we'd plan it for early April - which does not leave much time for preparation - :?
Beside time, another concern is the location ... we need to find some convenient yet attractive place to go :D
No big mountains north of Lyon, but scenic drives through forests and along river valleys maybe ?
with of course some hint of history & gastronomy
Bourgogne ? Morvan ? Loire Valley ? Sologne ?
What do you think ? :w

Alright Chris, I take good note that Lyon has won the race against Ardeche ... not sure it's good news for me

Keep in touch !
Fred

If we make it the Lyons area, how about the Beaujolais? Also, I seem to remember there is a small museum in Chauffailles (never been to it though). Having done Gigondas/Vacqueras this year, we could do Beaujolais and Macon next ......

Phil, I have replied in the other thread to avoid hacking Jörg's noggin thread too much

Hi guys,

"merci" for your kind comments on my photoes - and hats off again to Mr. Martin for his remarkable work. Remember: he did this on his own, in his garage. Okay, it's a big garage, but still...

I will have to interview him about why he did some of the things the way he did it - the handbrake vs. reverse occured to me only after Phil's comment. And the wipers? I was already wondering why he kept them in the original configuration. I can however understand he kept the bonnet release on the right - I mean, Land Rover did not change it in the LHD Defender either... And Chris is right about the rocker covers!

Francis is also quite interested in next year's SouthoFrance. So there is a good chance you might see his work in reality.

Jörg
